How to care for silk

By following these care instructions, you can preserve the beauty and durability of your silk garments.

Hand wash or gentle wash cycle:
Ideally, silk garments should be washed by hand to protect the delicate fibres. If you decide to machine wash, use a gentle wash cycle and cold water.

Use mild detergents:
Avoid aggressive cleaning agents, such as bleach or strongly scented detergents, as these can damage the delicate silk fibres. Instead, use a mild, pH-neutral detergent that is specially for silk.

Avoid excessive soaking:
Do not leave silk garments soaking in water for too long as this can weaken the fibres. Rinse them quickly and thoroughly, and remove excess water.

Gentle drying:
Do not tumble dry silk garments, as this can damage the fibres. Instead, lay the clothing flat on an absorbent towel and gently roll it up to soak up excess moisture. Then air dry, preferably in the shade, to avoid discolouration.

Iron on a low heat:
When ironing silk garments, use a low to medium heat and place a clean, damp cloth between the iron and the fabric to avoid direct contact. Iron on the reverse side of the fabric to prevent shine or burning.

The benefits of silk

Silk is a natural fibre produced by silkworms and is known for its unique softness, smoothness and natural sheen. It is extremely breathable and has a temperature-regulating effect, making it suitable for both warm and cool days.
