Michi, the CEO of the company, speaks about home and good cuisine

Everything you wanted to know about South Tyrol!

My favourite restaurant…
“There are countless excellent restaurants I could recommend based on the outstanding dishes and hospitality of the hosts.
These include the “Pillhof” in Frangart, just outside Bozen, superbly managed by Kathrin; the Restaurant of the legendary “Hotel Elefant” run by the Heiss family in Brixen; and it is always a pleasure to eat at the ”Stuä de Michi” at the Hotel la Perla in Corvara/Gadertal.
I am already looking forward to my next meals at these establishments!”

My favourite dish…
“Genuine and simple cooking. The spaghetti with tomatoes at the “Pillhof” are simply unbeatable; the tartare at the “Hotel Elefant” is irresistible, freshly prepared by the Chef Maître, Ranold. And, to be perfectly honest, nothing makes me happier than a good steak.”

You simply have to visit these mountain huts…
“You just have to visit the Seiser Alm, the highest plateau in Europe. I can also highly recommend the Tuffalm just above Völs on the Schlernplateau, as well as the Lafenn hut, just above South Tyrol’s capital, Bozen.
This is where it gets quite hard for me to choose, because there are countless beautiful meadows and plateaus.
Oh, and let’s not forget the most important fact (laughs): our cows are friendly and do not bump into our guests!”

My favourite walking trail…
“The one above the Seiser Alm on the Schlern mountain (2,500 m). No doubt about that.”

And what is so special about this trail?
“When I walk on this trail, I can let my mind wonder, enjoy the beautiful view, breathe in the scent of the mountain pines, revel in the silence, and relish the view of the beautiful mountain huts… and the friendly cows (grins).”

Hiking and walking is not everything in South Tyrol. I also enjoy…
“Every type of sport I can practice outdoors! South Tyroleans lead a healthy lifestyle and simply love nature. They love their home, South Tyrol, and are keen to practice any sport as much as possible, wherever and however that may be.
I am one of those crazy outdoor types, and I dive into nature as soon as I find enough time.”

The place where I go to recharge my batteries…
“I am lucky enough to be humble and thankful for my life, so the place really does not count. If I want to have a break for a minute and recharge my batteries, I can do so wherever I want. In the office, at home, or on my road bike.”

The source of my inspiration…
“What I have just said: wherever I can think and feel clearly.”

South Tyrolean trivia: some insider knowledge on…
“There are just too many. South Tyrol is a never-ending source of creativity; it is multifaceted, surprising; and, in many industries it has become a market leader!”

South Tyrol is…
“Family. Home. A lifestyle. The Italian bella vita coupled with German discipline. Basically, the perfect marriage”

A collection to remember

The lights go out. The candles start to flicker. The soundtrack of the film “Amélie” starts to play. Goosebumps. The spotlights turn on and… welcome Luis Trenker!
